Woodstock Competitor Finishes Second In Her Age Group at Tugaloo Triathlon

Amy Stewart of Woodstock finished second in the women's 30-34 age group at the Tugaloo Triathlon at Tugaloo State Park in Lavonia. She finished the 1.5K swim/42K bike/10K run in 2:31:15.

Josh Berwald of Woodstock was fourth in men's 25-29 in 2:23:30. Kellye Mills of Canton was fourth in women's 25-29 in 2:48:59. Jill Poon of Canton was fourth in women's 30-34 in 2:39:56. Betsy Milone of Woodstock was seventh in women's 40-44 in 2:57:48.


Golf

Brian Overstreet of Woodstock finished fourth in the fifth flight at the Georgia Public Links Championship at Stonebridge Golf Club in Rome.

Swimming

Doug Gjertsen of McDonough, a former NCAA champion and Olympic swimmer, will be inducted into the University of Texas Longhorn Hall of Honor in November.

Gjertsen was a three-time NCAA individual champion and swam on 11 NCAA championship relay teams. In the 1988 Olympics in Seoul, he earned a gold medal as a member of the 4x200 freestyle relay team. He won bronze in the same event in 1992 in Barcelona.
