Largemouth bass fishing has been slow and the cold weather has made getting strikes very tough. Almost any fishing needs to be really slow as the body of the bass all but shuts down in such cold water. But the fish still need to eat but not as often and they do not move very far to feed. Jigs and spoons are the typical winter lures and many anglers are really struggling to find and catch bass with these conditions. Most of the fish will be very inactive except on major or minor feeding periods so watch the Fish and Game Forecaster the rest of the month. The creeks mid lake around the Cheastee Bay are a few of the areas to look for the fish. In the bays around River Forks Park , look on and in the old creek bends and ditches for the bass. Docks around mid lake around Browns Bridge on the north side of the river are good docks all month. Avoid the muddy waters up both the rivers until the water warms.
Spotted bass are still biting and there are several techniques that are working. Spoons, drop shot rigs and jigs are great all year but especially in the colder waters. Use smaller sizes early in the day and then go to larger baits after noon. Pick some docks in the marinas down lake and use the Lowrance and find the drops at depths of 30 to 45 feet. These drops need to have a good well defined drop and the spots are holding right on the edges. Drop shot rigs with dark Zoom finesse worms are working and be sure to use the larger 3/8 ounce weight to get the baits deeper faster. Be sure to keep the line tight and use 10 pound Sufix Elite line on a medium heavy 6 ½ foot spinning rod and reel. If there are any small jig head around the boat, try a live night crawler on a ¼ ounce lead head jig. Small to medium shiners will also work use keep you line tight to feel the light strikes. Spoons in the ½ and ¾ ounce sizes are still deadly and Flex It's in whites, blue/white, and all chartreuse are the choices. The water is stained there but spots are still being taken on Strata spoons in 35 to 50 feet of water. Some spots are still right in the tops of the trees in the middle of the lower lake creeks. Look in ninety feet of water with trees coming up to the 50 or 45 feet range. Drop a Flex it spoon right on their heads.
Striper fishing is fair. Mid lake around River Forks and in the mouth of Flat Creek, stripers are feeding on jigs on umbrella rigs and live bait. Around Little Hall Park there is some surface activity for stripers around the Nix Bridge landing area. Just follow the birds. The north end of the lake is good up both the Chestatee and Chattahoochee rivers, as it has been for the last few weeks. Wahoo Creek and Little River continue producing some good action. Holly Park down to Lanier Bridge has also been producing fair. Check Sardis Creek and Ada Creek also as there have been some fish in there. Using live bait is the ticket in all of these areas. Gizzard shad, large minnows, trout and herring are all working, but herring are out producing the rest. Down lining has out produced free lining this past week, but keep a free line out because some schools are still coming to the surface. Most of the fish are going to be between a wide range of depths anywhere from 15 to 35 feet deep with the majority between 20 to 35. Down line your bait just above the fish. Most of the surfacing activity has occurred in the latter part of the afternoon. Just watch the birds and they will give it away. The south lake has been fair with some fish in Flat Creek from midway to the mouth holding at depths mentioned above. Umbrella rigs have been working well in all areas using the 4-arm version. A good way to start is to begin trolling the rig 150 to 160 feet behind the boat then adjust your depth according to the fish you are marking on your finder. The Hopkins and Flex-it spoons have also been producing better this week working the spoons vertically over the school while down lining live bait. If the fish are on top, double up your Super Flukes and cast to the breaking fish.
Crappie fishing is slow unless you find the right docks in the creek down lake. Use small tube baits and small jigs on 1/32 ounce lead heads and doodle the baits on 4 pound Sufix line to get the bites.

WEST POINT LAKE IS DOWN 7.9 FEET & 56 DEGREES AND STAINED
If you would like to have a free set up sheet for your sonar, send me an e mail to kensturdivant@earthlink.net and ask for the “Sonar Setup Quick List”.
Largemouth and spotted bass the pattern is the same for all species of bass right now. It's jigging time on Wes t Point . The fish are on the main body of the lake and in the main creek ch ann els and can be caught jigging at 23 to 25 feet. Best baits are buck tails, sassy shad, and 1/2 oz spoons such as a Hopkins spoon. Later in the day look in the lower lake creek bends down lake and use the Zoom u tail pumpkinseed lizard or worm. The short Carolina rig will be fair and get the baits into the heaviest cover and on the old creek beds. The green finesse worms on a brass and glass weight and glass bead makes lots of noise under water. Dropping a dark jig and eel can get a strike from the better fish. The spoons are still good winter lures for these fish and lucky anglers can get on a school. There are huge stumps on these old creeks and the winter bass spend all day tight on them. Up the river jigs by Stanley in the 1/2 ounce sizes in all black with a brown trailer is the best bait for a big bass. Stay just off the ch ann els and close to the current. The other pattern is to look for diving gulls on the lake, and then jig or troll in the areas that the gulls are feeding. With any warm up and a new or full moon, watch for a major feeding spree. Only poor weather or a ton of rain up north can slow down the action. This time of year, the back of the lower lake creeks may be a little less stained and more importantly, a tad bit warmer. So try these back areas but be careful as the lake is still down.
Crappie are starting bunching up in the mouths of the creeks like Turkey or Thompson. Slow troll crappie jigs deep and use several colors with pink and white being the best colors.

LAKE ALLATOONA IS DOWN 15.8 FEET, 50 DEGREES AND STAINED
This bass fishing report has been brought to you exclusively by Mike Bucca, Triton Mike's Spot Country Guide Service www.tritonmike.com Lake Allatoona, Georgia email: mbucca@comcast.net
Bass fishing is tough. The mud line is pretty much almost at the dam on the Etowah arm. It's stained up to about the mouth of Stamp and McCaskey Creek then it's fairly muddy. The Allatoona arm is clear to roughly about Allatoona landing. If you don't like fishing in the cold and muddy water you might want to consider staying home and watching football. Fishing was tough for us today and I do think we managed a limit of keepers. The fish we did catch were solid keepers in the 1.5 pound range. We caught some on crank baits and some on spoons. The best pattern is to arrive early and leave late and cast like heck all in between (i.e. no pattern). The deep/cold/muddy water was not fun to us today even with the 20 mph winds. When the water clears up we should be in great shape on quite a few different techniques if we can keep this cold weather on top of us. Back to my trip with Jim Hakala our fisheries biologist. Jim would like our support on a very cool project he is working on to help the anglers enjoy Lake Allatoona . I have the following dates open.

Line side fishing is good and not much has change from last week. The lake is stain from one end to the other. Finding clear water is the ticket. Free lines and pl ann er boards in the morning and late afternoon and then down lines in the middle of the day. As the water starts to clear fishing should get better. We still aren't loading the boat. But the fish we caught where good fish. Hope to have a better report for you next week. Trolling is still working and the best times seems to be mid day. LAKE HARTWELL IS DOWN 5.4 FEET, SLIGHTLY STAINED AND 46 DEGREES BY TIM WHITE - RAPALA PRO STAFF
Lake Hartwell fishing Guides are selling out fast. Get your copy today.
Bass fishing is only fair as the cold air of winter returns. Water temperatures dropped some and steady wind hit the lake. Hopefully a good shad die off is just around the corner which will make bass fishing a little better. Drop shot rigs on light line off the points and along the ch ann el ledges in fifteen to twenty feet of water are catching those suspended fish. Deep diving crank baits will catch those fish that move up from time to time to feed. Up in the rivers, anglers are using some hard baits, but mostly jigs and worms. Pick apart the wood cover, especially the stumps and brush piles in seven feet of water and deeper. Out on the main lake, just north of the dam, you will see avid Winter fishermen using those jigging spoons over deep stumps looking for that one big bite. This is somewhat productive, but the windy days make it difficult keeping the boat in place. Good baits to use this week include the Sworming Hornet Lure Drop Shot Rig, DT10's, Minnow Raps, 3/8 ounce and 1/2 ounce jigs and June bug worms.

LAKE RUSSELL IS ONE FOOT OVER FULL, SLIGHTLY STAINED AND 46 DEGREES BY RAPALA PRO STAFFER TIM WHITE
Bass fishing is fair but holding steady this week. A cold front moved through during the mid-week period and shocked the Bass a little, but expect them to rebound nicely by the weekend. The biggest factor will be to check the feeding tables on this page before you go. The full moon won't hit for a couple of weeks and some good reports came in from some local fishermen this past week. Good limits came from the northern end of the Sav ann ah River when anglers picked apart the wood with jigs and finesse worms. The cold front should back the bass back to deeper water. Back off and use those deep diving crank baits with a slow retrieve. Number eight and nine Shad Raps, Deep Diving Husky Jerk Baits used like a crank bait and the DT16's all should work. Also try using a 1/2 ounce Fish Head Spin with a Super Fluke attached over the deep water bass. If the sun pops out, bounce a DT7 Flat off the rocks and rip rap.

Bass fishing slowed down when the cold air hit during the middle of last week. Strong winds blew across the lake and the cold air moved the Bass off the banks to deeper water. The temperatures are expected to be on a roller coaster ride during the next week and the Bass will move up some on the warmer days. Deep water spooning is always an alternative when the Bass are holding in deep water. The key will be not to overwork your bait with the rod tip. Drop shotting is another good method to use along the deeper ch ann el ledges. Other than that, wear plenty of clothes and carry along plenty of hot liquids.

Black bass are fair but there are fish and small ones, shallow all over the lake. Stay in the creeks as there are already reports of bass moving to shallows. The Texas or Carolina rigged worms in green shad or black grape and use the brass and glass weight for extra sound. Work all slow lures all the way back to the boat on the points and ledges. Up river in the creeks mouths slow roll a larger 1/2 ounce Enticer spinner bait with gold and silver willow leaf blades. Later each day the fish are moving to river points. Run a gold Rapala by any grass and let the bait sit dead still.
Crappie fishing is good and there is clear water in Spring Creek but the river is slightly stained. There are lots of deep fish at 18 to 22 feet and pick the outside bends of the river and watch the loca to r. Both live minnows and bright jigs have been working and there is a warm up on the way that should fire these fish off to wards the shallows.

LAKE GEORGE IS DOWN 2.5 FEET, 54 DEGREES & CLEAR
If you would like to have a free set up sheet for your sonar, send me an e mail to kensturdivant@earthlink.net and ask for the “Sonar Setup Quick List”.
Bass fishing is barely fair. The heavy rains did muddy the lake up, especially on the north end. Visibility is a foot or less when the mud lines start stretching out. Things had started to improve some this week as warmer temperatures brought the baitfish up on the flats and the bass right behind them. Following the flocks of birds around paid off this weekend, with the wind picking up stay in the creeks. If you see diving birds try a spoon and then a Rat-L-Trap. This will get you a mix of white bass and largemouth. The fish are in the 1 to 2 pound range. When the fish would go back down wait around for 10 minutes or so and the birds would circle back showing anglers where to fish. Working the brush piles in 12 feet of water along the Alabama side below White Oak is fair. Every year the lower end of the lake seems to get cranked up around February. Concentrate around Thomas Mill on the Alabama side and Sandy Creek on the Georgia side. These areas are normally the first to have fish pull up shallow looking to spawn. These cold fronts are the problem; just have to keep watching the weather.

LAKE WEISS IS DOWN 5.7 FEET, STAINED & 46 DEGREES BY MARK COLLINS GUIDE SERVICE
www.markcollinsguideservice.com 256-779-3387
Please be careful on Weiss Lake with the low water level!
Bass fishing is slow and the fish are deep on the ledges on a winter pattern. Stroking a 3/8 or 1/4 ounce brown Stanley jig with a Zoom Chunk trailer in pumpkin seed color is producing some fish. A Carolina rig with a 6 inch Zoom Dead Ringer or a Gene Larue Salt Craw in June bug or pumpkin seed is catching fish also. Remember to fish slowly, the water is cold and the slower you fish the more bites you will get. Little River is producing a lot of Spotted Bass , use a 4 inch Zoom Ring Worm in Smoke Glitter color or Pumpkin Seed color, fish the river ch ann el ledges above JR's Marina.
Crappie fishing is good. The crappie have started moving into the mouth of the bays in the mid to lower lake. Spider trolling with 1/16 ounce JR's jigs in red, black, chartreuse and red, blue, chartreuse is producing some great catches in the bays around Yellow Creek and Bay Spring area.
Little Spring Creek is also producing some good catches from 30 to 60 keepers per day with plenty of short fish, Spider Trolling 1/32 ounce JR's jigs in 3 to 7 feet of water. The upper Coosa River is producing some fish in the old tree tops along the main river ch ann el above Riverside Camp Ground using minnows under a slip float 4 to 10 feet deep. The Chattooga River is also producing some good catches using a Float and Fly technique 3 to 6 feet deep around the stumps on the edges of the old river ch ann el.
Catfish are not biting. A few fish are being caught by jug fisherman in the main Coosa river ch ann el near Yellow Creek.
Striper fishing is great and the fish are in the main lake below the cause way in Cedar Bluff down to the dams in Leesburg. Look for the fish on flats and points near the river ch ann els, also a lot of fish in Yellow Creek. Watch for the gulls to circle and dive into the water, move close to the area, then cast a Gizz 4 crank bait by Smack Tackle to the area for some fast action or a chartreuse or white 4 inch Sassy Shad or curly tail grub on a 1/4 ounce jig head. Trolling the same jigs where Little River and the Chattooga River meet and on main lake points is working great also. Anytime they are generating power, fish the rocks on either side of the dam and the 2 points at the mouth of the canal. The White Bass and Yellow Bass are schooling on top early and late in the main lake; look for flats near the old river ch ann el near Yellow Creek. Use a White or Yellow Rooster Tail or a Little George for lots of action.

LAKE OCONEE IS FULL, 58 DEGREES, STAINED BY AL BASSETT
Lake Oconee is at full pool with a water temperature of 48-52 degrees. Most of the lake is clear but you may find some stained to muddy water up the Oconee River . Bass fishing is fair. There are a couple of ways that you are able to catch fish. If you are looking for the bigger fish flipping a jig and pig or a large worm under docks will bring you a few good bites. You will want to look for docks where there is deep water nearby. Make sure you work all areas of the dock. If you are looking for numbers of fish I would go to finesse fishing. I suggest that you fish a drop-shot or a jig-head worm on light line, 6 or 8 pound test should be a good choice. Using a drop shot jig by Sworming Hornet with a baby fluke works very well. Look for where there is rock or rip-rap in the area. These areas will warm a little bit faster than the rest of the lake. Fish the bait slow and keep in contact with your bait.
Crappie fishing is fair. Look for a few warm days in a row and head up the Oconee River on the flats above the Indian Mound. The Indian Mound is located on the Oconee River north of the Hwy 278 Bridge. Use a lake map and find where there is an island north of the Hwy 278 Bridge that is the area known as the Indian Mound. Go north up the river till you see a small windmill on the right bank. The water depth will be 4 to 6 foot deep. You should see other boats at this time. Use live bait or a Hal-Fly tipped with a minnow. You will need to try several different colors of Hal-Flies to see which color is working best on any given day. There are some good fish being caught in the middle of the lake and in the coves off the main lake. Start at the mouth of the coves and work your way back into the cove watching your depth finder to see what depth they are holding. If we have had a few warm days in a row go all the way to the back of the coves. Fish have been caught in less than 5-foot of water. Also some good fish are being caught in 40 ft of water on the Richland Creek leg of the lake. You will need to watch your depth finder to see what depth they are holding at.

LAKE SINCLAIR IS DOWN 2.8 FEET, 60 DEGREES AND LIGHTLY STAINED.

Black bass are biting fair on a variety of patterns and baits. Riprap is still producing, mainly with small to medium crank baits and jigs. Original Shad Raps in sizes #5 and #7 have recently caught fish, along with Deep Little N’s and Fat Free Shads. Chartreuse and shad patterns have both worked on each of the baits. Shad Raps and other similar baits are catching a few fish most anywhere, literally. One fish may be caught in the back of a short pocket and the next may come from the point at the mouth of the same pocket. And the next fish may come from the side of a dock. Some anglers are faring well using soft plastics around docks and points. Carolina rigs, Texas rigs, drop shot rig, and jig head and worm are all producing a few bites. Cranking main lake points is working some, especially during current flows and windy conditions. Depths are varying on the points from 2 to over 20 feet deep with most at 8 to 12 feet. Try a Deep Little N or ½-ounce Fat Free Shad, both in shad or chartreuse patterns. On the points where fish are marked on the locater near 20 feet or deeper, try vertically jigging a .6 Flex-It spoon in white, chartreuse, or silver. One of the soft plastic rigs will usually work when the spoons don’t. A Little George or Rocket Shad may also catch an extra fish.
Line sides are fair but the action has slowed down a little. Most are still coming from Beaver Dam Creek on a variety of baits. Hybrids and whites may show up anywhere in or near the creek, but a few small areas have been more consistent. Try around the cables out from the warm water discharge area. In the middle just below the bridge is good. The small points and flats from the bridge to the river have produced well also. A popping cork and Thing popper rig will work at times, along with Rooster Tails, Rat L Traps, small crank baits, Sassy Shads, crappie jigs, and small spoons. Live or cut shad has also produced at times. On some days, hybrids and whites can be caught on main lake points and flats with jigging spoons.
Crappie are still slow to fair, with most being caught by trolling multiple rigs. Hal Flies and Triple Ripples are the choice of most locals. Some are being caught in the following creeks: Rooty, Beaver Dam, Crooked, and Sandy . The creeks off Little River should be producing soon. Experiment with colors and trolling depth.

JACKSON LAKE IS DOWN 5.1 FEET, STAINED & 51 DEGREES
If you would like to have a free set up sheet for your sonar, send me an e mail to kensturdivant@earthlink.net and ask for the “Sonar Setup Quick List”.
Black bass fishing is slow. The lake level is holding and the recent rains and heavy wind turned the water a little brown. Fishing is best on the lower end of the lake and the days with light wind should be the most productive. Number seven Shad Raps and the RS Shad Raps would be a good bait to use this week. Silver or white/chartreuse colors are always good here. Number five in the shad Raps and number fives in the RS models would be my choice. Look for the areas that have the best cover and if the water is real muddy, stay in close to the banks with your baits. The bass will move up on real muddy water and seek out the shallows. The heavy content of red clay will clog up the gills faster and the shallow points will clear up first. Also take along a short leader Carolina rig and use a red shad Culprit worm. The red shad color is ideal for this lake and the added rattle is what you need for those extra bites. Work the ledges after you crank up the shallows and remember to work the baits slow. Slow retrieves and a very slow moving Carolina rig will be the key. This will allow the bass more time to key in on you baits.
Crappie fishing is at a dead stand still due to the dirty water and the cold front that passed through.
