Cherokee Sheriff’s Office investigators arrested an absconded sex offender in Woodstock Friday afternoon.
Michael Thomas Hilbert, 29 years old of Woodstock, was arrested after he was located hiding in the woods near the Fountain and Lake Mobile Home Park on Arnold Mill Rd. Hilbert was a registered sex offender living in Cherokee county earlier this year when he unregistered and advised the sex offender manager, Investigator Bob Post, that he was moving to Louisiana. A follow up investigation revealed that Hilbert did move to Louisiana but never registered as a sex offender in that state. Hilbert then returned to Cherokee County and failed to notify the sheriff's office.
Hilbert was charged with Violation of the Georgia Sex Offender Registry and is being held in the Cherokee Adult Detention Center with an $11,100.00 bond.
