One Step Ahead

Children. How they love to follow us around and copy us. Which is already enough to make us walk straighter, or at least we should . They imitate, walk around with our shoes on their little feet, loose their toothbrush after carrying it around for an hour “ brushing their teeth” like Mom and Dad. Before long we start to see our facial expressions on their faces and hear our words coming from their mouth and before you know it they are following us around the house and most likely, our example. My son should actually get some credit for this story because it was through him that the Lord spoke this story to me and proved a truth in front of me that is comforting to my heart. I had been playing with my son and chasing him around the house. Once we had calmed down he was still following me and chattering in the language that only a two year old can fully grasp. When I walked into the hallway he paused. He stood there and looked at me as if something was bothering him about the hallway. I realized that the light was off in the hallway and that he didn’t want to walk in the dark. Sound familiar in your life? I then proceeded down the hall towards the light switch in order to turn it on and give him light. But before I could do that, while I was watching, he started walking towards me even though I had yet to turn on the light. Why? Because Daddy had already walked the dark hall before him and thus he had made it safe for him to walk. My presence in the dark was enough light for him to go by. His trust in his Daddy was enough to bring him forward even in the dark. My presence plus his trust equaled his safety. Friends, can I tell you that there is a presence that can do the same for you? May I suggest to you that there is no such thing as a hallway to dark? There is a Father who has built all bridges for you and can and will illuminate every corner of your world. His presence plus your trust equals your safety, your peace of mind, and your assurance that no matter where you walk, He has walked before you. He goes before you and preserves your way. (Proverbs 2:8). Even the dark recesses of your mind on your worst day He can set ablaze. My point is this, Jesus went to and literally through Hell to save you, He won’t allow the dark moments of your life to snatch you from His hand. Where God is, there light is as well. You don’t have to see it to know it, just as a blind person cannot see the sun but feels the warmth thereof. But there is a catch here Christian, as with all the promises of God. There is a prerequisite. In order for you to have this light, this help, this assurance, you must walk in the light as He is in the light. If you walk outside of the umbrella while it is raining, do you not get wet? Same here, if you’re going your way, doing your own thing outside of the will of God for your life and not His way well…just expect to get wet and don’t blame God for the mud holes you dug. We are to follow Him; He is not a follower of man. Take a lesson from a child that has yet to be touched by the fears and doubts that try to come upon us as adults in this world. Trust your Father even in the dark and just as I finally did turn on our light, He will open your eyes to the light. He will reveal Himself in different ways in your life. Think of it, my son saw the walls and a toy when I turned on the light, but with God’s light, you may finally get that glimpse of an even brighter future and your hands on hope. After all, He is the Light of the world (please read John 8:12). As usual friends, I just humbly submit this to you, it is ultimately your choice…righteousness or raingear…trust or fear.

Blessings!
