Canton Resident Wins Toastmasters Speech Contest

Published May 12, 2008

Canton resident Cathy Wendland-Colby emerged victorious amongst 10 contestants in the Toastmasters speech competition held during District 14 (Georgia) Spring conference in Peachtree City, GA from May 2-3, 2008.

Wendland-Colby participated in the Table Topics contest and had to respond extemporaneously to the question that was posed only seconds earlier.  Each of the contestants was asked the same question; however, Wendland-Colby’s response wowed the audience and judges to earn her first place.

A practicing Chiropractor, Wendland-Colby is a charter member of Cherokee Toastmasters Club which meets for lunch on Wednesdays at Eagle Watch in Woodstock, GA.

In a competitive job market, companies are seeking people with excellent communications and leadership skills. Toastmasters International, a nonprofit organization for more than 80 years, has been helping millions of people face their biggest fears of public speaking. Through Toastmasters, participants learn how to achieve greater professional and personal success by sharpening their communications and leadership skills, as well as learn how to raise their profile and market the skills acquired in Toastmasters.
