Cherokee Sheriff Warns Citizens of Mail Theft

The Cherokee Sheriff’s Office has received a report of an unidentified person driving a late model gray Ford Taurus in the Woodstock Rd. and Kellogg Creek Rd. area taking mail out of mail boxes. If anyone in that area observes a similar vehicle and it appears the driver or passenger is stealing mail they are urged to call 911 immediately and report the incident.

Any residents of that area are also urged to take steps to ensure they are not unknowingly victims of mail theft. Residents should monitor their credit and banking activity for anything unusual and also ensure their monthly bills have been processed. Often mail theft can result in the suspects stealing the identiy of the victims.

At this time the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office has received two reports from victims of mail theft in that area and felt it was necessary to take steps to alert people in that vicinity. In addition, due to the information above and considering it is tax season, citizens should use extreme caution when distibuting their personal information whether it be by phone or Intenet.
