Cherokee Sheriff’s Office Sex Offender Registry Manager Deputy Robert Post arrested Joseph Carlton Holmes, 67 years of age, for violations of the Adam Walsh Act.
Deputy Post received an anonymous tip that Holmes, an absconded sex offender from Tennessee, was staying at an address in Canton. Deputy Post, through conversations with U.S. Marshals, was able to confirm that Holmes was in fact an absconded sex offender and that the Marshals had been attempting to locate and arrest Holmes for quite some time. Holmes is listed with the Department of Justice as an absconded violent sexual offender for the 1986 conviction of Molestation of a Child. The last time that Holmes was reported to have been in compliance with the Sex Offender Registry laws was in November of 2006.
Upon determination that Holmes was an absconded sexual offender, Deputy Post took warrants on Holmes for violation of the Georgia Sex Offender Registry. Cherokee Sheriff’s Deputies then found Holmes at the Canton address and arrested him without incident.
Holmes is currently being held without bond at the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center.
