Robin and his merry men stole the show at last weekend’s opening of Robin Hood in the Sawnee Cultural Arts Center’s Backstage Blackbox Theatre. Performances were given at 10:00am and 2:00pm and the afternoon show played to a sold out crowd.
This exciting show includes swashbuckling humor, romance and even a dramatic brawl between Robin Hood, his merry men, Guy of Gisbourne, the Sheriff of Nottingham and all the peasants of the kingdom.
The cast is composed of young actors ages 13 to 18 from Forsyth County and the north metro area. Daniel Hilton, a noted instructor of drama and music in the Roswell area, adapted and directed the play.
Amelia Bahr, Artistic Director and a member of the Sawnee Cultural Arts Center’s Board of Directors, designed the costumes and served as the chief scenic artist. Don Brainerd served as the Technical Director of the production and chief set carpenter. Daniel Glenn, a sophomore and theatrical arts major at New York University, is the Stage Manager.
Becky Brannon, Zach Walsh and Sloane Shaffer are all students at South Forsyth High School and serve as backstage crew and light and sound technicians.
Robin Hood is produced by the Center’s children’s theatre troupe, Saturday on Stage, and four more performances will be given on June 19 and July 10 at 10:00am and 2:00pm. Tickets at the door are $9, but the Center recommends purchasing tickets in advance and offers a $1 discount per ticket for advance purchase.
