A Ball Ground bartender is a lucky lottery winner. Michele Caldwell won a $1 million prize playing Georgia's $500 Million Club, a Georgia Lottery instant game.
She purchased the lucky ticket at CITGO at Ball Ground, 2268 Hightower Road in Ball Ground. Caldwell, 30, and her husband, Dawson, took the ticket home and scratched it while eating dinner.
"I was excited," she said. "He was a little calmer than I was."
The couple, who married last December, will make plans to celebrate their one-year anniversary with the winnings, Caldwell shared.
"Winning is pretty awesome," she exclaimed.
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned over $9.5 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs including Georgia's HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia's Prekindergarten Program. More than 1 million students have received HOPE, and more than 850,000 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
