On Sunday, October 21, 2007 at 2:00 pm, the 20th Annual Leo & Berry Eizenstat Memorial Lecture will feature Honorable Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Associate Justice U.S. Supreme Court.
Ahavath Achim Synagogue hosts the lecture series established by The Honorable Stuart Eizenstat in memory of his father Leo and uncle Berry Eizenstat.
This lecture is free and open to the public. Tickets will not be issued. Allow at least half an hour for security.
Justice Ginsburg will discuss The Role of Dissenting Opinions in the US Supreme Court. Ginsburg gave two oral dissenting opinions from the bench last term as compared to only six in her previous 13 years. She will answer questions about the US Constitution in an era of terrorism, e.g. dealing with Guantanamo Bay cases.
President Clinton nominated Justice Ginsburg to the Supreme Court in 1993. Prior to her appointment to the Court, Justice Ginsburg served as a member of the U.S. Court of Appeals and taught law at Columbia University. Justice Ginsburg has written widely on legal issues from civil procedure to constitutional law.
The Honorable Stuart Eizenstat, a key figure in both the Carter and Clinton Administrations, will introduce Justice Ginsburg.
