CONCERT: LYRA STRING QUARTET
Callanwolde Fine Arts Center hosts a special performance of chamber music on Sunday, January 6, 2008 at 4:00 pm. String quartet-in-residence LYRA welcomes guest artist Christopher French, Associate Principal Violoncello of the Houston Symphony Orchestra. This special concert will offer a spectacular evening of chamber music in the Great Hall of Callanwold e Fine Arts Center. Tickets: $18 Adults; $12 Students/Seniors. “Family Stories and Others”
An Exhibit of Mixed Media Works by Carla House
The exhibit will open on Friday, February 8, with a reception for the artist from 7 to 9 pm, and run through March 28. Admission is free and the public is invited.
“My series began years ago as an exercise in retrieving childhood memories and recording dreams and reflections,” says the artist. “The work combines watercolor and collage techniques and employs the use of symbolism and metaphors to weave the stories together.”
The gallery is located on the second floor of the main building in the Callanwolde mansion at 980 Briarcliff Road, Atlanta. Viewing hours are from 10 am to 8 pm, Monday through Friday, and 10 am to 3 pm on Saturday. For more information call 404-872-5338.

Join two amazing poets Judson Mitcham and Lisa Allender as Callanwolde celebrates the art and performance of poetry with readings in the unique setting of the Callanwolde Conservatory. TANGO NIGHT – VALENTINE TANGO!
Learn to appreciate authentic Argentine tango! You will learn about the rhythm and movement of Argentine Tango and how to focus on connecting with the music and your partner. Learn how two bodies can move as one! Dancers of all skill levels are welcome and no partner is necessary. The evening begins at 8:00 PM with an introductory lesson from the expert instructors of Tango Rio (www.tango-rio.com). “Arias from Messiah”
Several Dancers Core has initiated an artistic collaboration between its dance company, CORE Performance Company, and Atlanta Baroque Orchestra to present “Arias from Messiah” dance to excerpts of Messiah by George Frederic Handel. This event welcomes the talents of all adult amateur and professional musicians in Atlanta who would like an opportunity to gather to read, play, and perform Chamber Music in the warm, friendly environment of Callanwolde Fine Arts Center! This "soiree" event aims to provide exposure to a wide variety of chamber music literature, to stimulate sensitive ensemble playing, and to create awareness of the elements of fine musicianship through sight-reading, listening, and performing. “A Thousand and One Nights”
We cordially invite you to join us for “A Thousand and One Nights” – the third Subscription Series concert of the thirty-sixth season of the Callanwolde Concert Band with Raymond Handfield, Conductor. The featured work on this program will be the complete “Scheherazade” of Nicolai Rimsky-Korsakov. Also on the program will be works by Jacques Offenbach and Julius Fucik. The Band, a community organization, is DeKalb County’s premiere symphonic wind ensemble. Admission: $10.00 Adults; $5.00 Students, Senior Citizens, and current Artscard and Atlanta Planit members.
